About Me:
Hi, I am Şakire Örmeci;
I was born in Istanbul and I lived in Istanbul with my family until I deserved to study at Middle East Teachnical Universty (METU). I have always wanted to become a teacher like my mathematics teacher in my secondary school who I admired, but I did not know whether I have ability towards teaching or not. Therefore, I preferred to study mathematics in Middle East Technical University (METU). However, being a teacher has always been in my mind.
During my education life in METU, I attended students clubs; Foundation of Aiding to Elementary Schools (İLKYAR) and Turkish Folklore Club (THBT). Being a member of these clubs improves my teamwork, organization,and interpersonal relation skills.
In the first year of my education, I decided to get experience in teaching. Hence I started to work in Kampüs Dershanesi as a trainee teacher in 2006. After a three months teaching experience in Kampüs Dershanesi, I realized that I really want to be a teacher; since teaching and sharing knowledge make me happy. Hence, I decided to develop myself to become a teacher.
In the following years, to reach my ambitions I had some other experiences in teaching. In 2007-2008, I joined the voluntary teaching project at METU which I am proud of being a part of such a community service. This project did not only make me close to the adolescents but also showed me a little how to manage a class. In addition I have been giving private math courses for high school and secondary school students for years. Furthermore as a volunteer in 2010 I joined TEGV (The Foundation of Turkish Education Volunteers) that aims at providing development of 7-15 year old children both mentally and physically.
All these experiences, which I have acquired until that time, clearly show that I should be a well qualified teacher. Therefore I applied to M.A. programe which is Curriculum and Instruction with Teaching Certificate (CITE) in Bilkent University and I was accepted this programme. Thus I have studied in Bilkent University for approximately 14 months.
